Gavin Escott is a reporting intern at The Chronicle and a recent graduate of the University of Wisconsin at Madison, where he studied political science and Mandarin.
Gavin previously reported on politics and education for the Wisconsin State Journal and served as the campus-news editor for the student publication, The Daily Cardinal, overseeing coverage of the second Trump administration’s impact on campus, university administration, and student/faculty life. He broke news that state lawmakers would not increase university funding to backfill federal research cuts and was named one of the Wisconsin News Association’s Collegiate Journalists of the Year in 2024. He also worked on podcasts at Ghost Island Media, in Taiwan, and WORT Community Radio, in Wisconsin.
